Apply for Preschool

School age 4 year old preschool application 

(4 year-old D.O.B. range: October 1, 2016 - September 30, 2017) 

All 3-year-old children must register for Head Start

      registration

 

 

Registration Procedures: 

1.If your child is age 4 on or before Sept 30th, parents are to complete the online preschool application and are encouraged to provide all required documents prior to the registration event. Optional: Documents can be scanned  (use a scanner or the scan feature on your phone) and emailed to vpp@vpsb.us

2. If you are unable to complete the online application and/or provide documents by email you will be asked to complete the online application at the time of the enrollment event. Bring your documentation and we will assist by making copies.

For all children age 3, a head start application will be provided to you at the enrollment event for completion. 

NOTE: Only COMPLETED files are reviewed for eligibility and placement into a Pre-K program. This includes completion of an application and all required documents submitted. All files are reviewed by our Early Childhood team. Parents will be contacted prior to the end of May 2021 regarding eligibility and enrollment information.  

3. If parents miss a step in the registration process, then any submitted information will be kept and a program coordinator will send a follow-up email and/or make a courtesy call (using the information on your application) to remind parents of the information needed to complete the registration process.  

 4. If you missed an enrollment event and your child is age 4 by Sept 30th, complete the online preschool application and either upload the required documents or visit the school site in your bussing area for more information on how to register for the 2021-2022 school year. 

All eligible students will be placed first in an open slot. The criteria below will be used to determine eligibility:

• Child’s original birth certificate 

• Child’s social security card

• Child’s current immunization record

• Provide proof of residency - parents current electric, water, or gas bill, rent    receipt, or filed Homestead Exemption

• Provide Proof of Household Income:

TWO (2) consecutive check stubs for EACH PARENT of CAREGIVER IN THE HOUSEHOLD for the current year (within 2 months from the date of filling out this application.)  

An official letter from your employer stating all of the following: Where parent/guardian is employed, the hourly rate of pay, and the average number of hours parent/guardian works per week.

SNAP/Food Stamps - The letter (cards not accepted) must include the child’s name and valid effective dates. 

A statement from the Social Security Administration verifying that the child listed on the application is a recipient of SSI benefits, which must be accompanied by 2 current check stubs. 

Current foster care placement agreement from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Any adult in the household who claims zero income of any kind must submit a Statement of No Income form. (Link to the document is below)

Parents or guardians who are employed intermittently, self- employed, or who do not have tax forms, W-2 forms, check stubs, or applicable DCFS printouts to verify their income must submit a Declaration of Income for Irregular Employment form. (Link to the document is below)

Families in a temporary living arrangement due to loss of housing or economic hardship (homeless).  

5. The processing of applications will be ongoing until all available seats are filled. Thereafter, the applications will be processed and students will be placed on a waiting list. If a seat becomes available in the program, the coordinator will contact the next family on the waiting list.

6. Teachers will be given class rosters in July 2021, and will begin contacting families with important information regarding the class assignment, pre-k testing days/times, and the dates for the start of school by late July or early August.
